THE MESSAGE - 2026
Imagine yourself in an isolated room, no one in the room, just you, alone in your own thoughts. Now I want to ask if at any point of time, you have feared death or… even still do. Where do we all go in the end? Is it the same isolated room you imagined? or is it heaven? or is it… nothing?
I apologize in advance because I can't give you that answer. I have asked myself these questions since the age of eight.
My project named “The message” is a body of work that sits within these questions and follows a personal story…
A journey where I…
Lost my identity, mind, voice.
Prayed and prayed but there was always this tiny whisper asking me why bother trying to pray.
Denied and denied my faith, where the rooster crowed more than three times that day.
My parents prayers, even when they went through hell trying to help me.
In the end, what If I
I opened my heart.
Faith, Identity, God.
I’m interested in presenting this work through polaroid because the process is spontaneous, especially experimenting with light, just like how I'm trying a new process in life.
During my process I’ve incorporated audio and an installation piece, a space that creates an environment where one sits in the middle of the work, surrounded with floating polaroids around the viewer, audio with a soft choir along with a voicemail I left for the one listening.
The Message remains with a memory/presence attempting to hold onto a conversation that is still trying to understand itself.
My name is Berlin Segovia.
Thank you.
